Joseph T. Coyle is the Eben S. Draper Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience (Emeritus) at Harvard Medical School. After graduating from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, he completed an internship in Pediatrics and a residency in Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship with Nobel Laureate Julius Axelrod, PhD, at the National Institute of Mental Health.

Coyle went on to serve as Director of Child Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins before becoming Chairman of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. A former President of the Society for Neuroscience, he has been elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. His research has been supported by NIH grants for more than forty years, and he has published over 600 scientific articles and chapters, as well as 14 books.
